Five of us took a train to Cologne, Germany! Our hostel was right next to the train station and the train station was right next to downtown. It was perfect. The first night we went in search of a true German meal and we found it! Below is a picture of Meaghan and I drinking the beer, Koelsch. It is well known in Germany and one of the last expensive beers.
Below is Rodrigo, Ben, and Eric also drinking the same beer. We found a restaurant where the walls were covered in old advertisements and pictures - some of which showed what Cologne looked like after being bomb in WWII - quite disastrous. There actually was not much left after the bombs, except the cathedral and couple other buildings.
Below is a small corner of the restaurant to give you
an idea of what it looked like. Above, looks like a statue but is a real person!
Yumm! Baked goods! This was a gigantic dough pretzel covered in sugar and almonds! Delicious!
Art in front of the cathedral.
The massive cathedral!
We couldn't fit the entire cathedral in ANY of the pictures!
Meaghan and I.
Inside the cathedral. The windows are all the original panes - they took them out during the war and stored them in the basement.
The cathedral was one of very few places in Cologne that was not bombed to the ground during the war. It was absolutely gorgeous. I went to church that sunday, it was in German of course but it was intersting to go. It was absolutely freezing inside. The service was exactly the same as the St. Anne's in Plaistow, NH except in German! There were about 50 teenage boys there, without parents - they were completely respectful the entire time.
Art!
On the bridge going across the river there are millions of lock people have places on the fence!
GERMAN FOOD WAS MY FAVORITE YET!
TJ MAX??? TK MAX.....
